Baccarat: History Behind the Game

Baccarat is misleading, it gives off an exclusive and elite looking front, but is really quite simple and has some of the best odds in your favor in the house. Here is a little background into the history of the game, it’s origins, and some useful information.

It’s definite origins are unknown, as both Italy and France want to claim that it is a result of their creation. If you look even farther back, it is said that the original origin is rooted in that of pagan ritual. This would surround the fate of a virgin, who would rely on the outcome of nine sided dice. The virgin herself would roll the dice while spirits (nine in number to match the faces of the die) prayed. Depending on the result, her fate would vary. If she rolled any number five or below, she would have to drown herself in the ocean. If it were a six or seven, she would not have to be apart of any religious activity. If it were an eight or nine, she would have the honor of being a priestess of the temple.

For more concrete evidence, we look to an Italian gambler who said that he created it way back in the late fourteen hundreds. This is very believable, especially considering that the name is the Italian word for zero.
